7/10/10: Living Waters Spa participated in the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) 2010 attempt to break the 2009 Skinny-Dip record.  Our local TV 2 (CBS affiliate) came and covered the fun event.  Click on the above picture for the video of that event.

It's about 125 miles from Los Angeles to the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Calif. With no traffic on the I-10, you could get there in maybe two hours. But why the rush? You're in Southern California, the laid-back capital of America. Chances are you've made a quick stop at a "kush doctor" on Venice Beach and are ready to warm up your ears blasting your iPod in the rented convertible. So here are some choice stops from LAX airport to Indio that will enhance the three-day party that is Coachella.

Skinny-Dip at the Living Waters Spa
Located atop a natural aquifer that produces water between 104 and 160 degrees, the town of Desert Hot Springs has several hotels offering the natural spa experience. We suggest the Living Waters Spa, where clothing is optional. Water flows continuously from a 200-foot well through the hotel's two mineral pools, keeping things clean without chlorine. "Back in the day, people with polio would soak in the water," says owner Judy Bowman. "They say it might have a trace of lithium, so maybe that's why it feels so good."

..."The point of this spa is to help people relax in the confines of nonsexual nudity. Not that there's anything wrong with sexual nudity, but not here," he [Jeff, the owner] added. His wife, Judy, similarly non-attired, nodded in agreement.

We looked from their office out over the pools containing mineral water pumped straight from the hot springs underneath the Living Waters Spa in Palm Springs, California. Jeff and Judy...were two of the nicest people you would ever meet...

 

He told me that everyone was welcome at the Living Waters: "Many naturist resorts only take straight couples. We don't discriminate – single, married, gay, straight or lesbian. We accept anyone."

The spa, perhaps partly because Jeff has an earring, a serious California drawl and addresses you as "man", had a faintly new-agey vibe that seems to attract a younger market than the naturist stereotype... You do find smart chalet-like rooms clustered around the two pools in a former 50s motel (complete with the original neon sign) and stunning mountain views. Tranquil music played through discreet loudspeakers, making it very much a relaxing spa experience; indeed, Jeff and Judy are both trained masseurs. According to Judy, the idea is to lull guests into a state of "blissful boredom". Desert Hot Springs, CA among top spots to get naked

If clothing optional is on your hot list of places to visit, then you'll appreciate the latest news from the hotel association of Desert Hot Springs, in the Coachella Valley near Palm Springs... Recently the international, award-winner travel advisory site TripAdvisor.com has placed the city of Desert Hot Springs in the top three areas in the category Best California Hot Springs Locations.

Natural hot springs abound in the Coachella Valley. Over 80 ‘spatels’ proliferated in the 1950s and ‘60s. Several have been restored to their mid-century retro-hip splendor.
